What is typically covered? A standard homeowners policy typically covers many types of unfortunate and unexpected events, such as fire and smoke, lightning, wind, hail, frozen plumbing, theft, explosion, vandalism, falling objects, and water damage from plumbing, furnace, air conditioner, or water heater. What Is Not Usually Covered? Protection from damage caused by floods and earthquakes is typically excluded from home insurance policies. You may be able to purchase a separate flood insurance policy or an earthquake insurance policy to help safeguard your home. Discuss with your agent what your policy does and does not cover.
